Long-time readers will know of my love for the myth and above all the music of Moondog, the blind, homeless poet-composer. Two years ago I was lamenting the lack of Moondog-related moving images.
Well maybe all that hooey about putting your wishes out to the universe is true. The Viking of 6th Avenue, the first film about Moondog, is in an advanced state of becoming. With contemporary footage, lots of biographical background and interviews with the likes of Philip Glass, John Zorn, Debbie Harry, Jarvis Cocker and Damon Albarn, it looks to be a trove of lunarcanine lore.
The filmmakers have launched a Kickstarter drive to push the documentary to completion. If you’re as excited as I am about finally seeing this extraordinary figure on the big screen, please consider sparing a few of your hard-earned dollars/euros/pesos/pounds/yuan to this vital campaign.
