Just because I’m in a jaunty, saucy, music hall kind of a mood (we would need to spend more time together for you to realise how improbable that is)…here’s a song from the 1944 film Champagne Charlie composed by none other than our old friend Lord Berners. How these lyrics made their way into cinemas is anyone’s guess; I can only imagine all the film censors had been called up.
And remember as Francis Bacon always said: “Champagne for my real friends, real pain for my sham friends.”
Cheers!
We’ve all been there.
I’d been using that champagne toast for decades, only to find out last year (while reading the fab Bacon bio Anatomy of an Enigma from whence it came. Which proves that great minds drink alike!
Santé!
