Today marks twelve years since the brilliant Quentin Crisp died, and this is as good an opportunity as any to alert you to the existence (if you were yet ignorant of it) of Crisperanto. It’s your one-stop source for all things Crispine: information, interviews, images, unpublished writings and ephemera. They’re also on Facebook and their regular offerings of Crisp quotes are a delight. Today’s update strikes an appropriately valedictory tone:
I would hate to leave this world without saying that I have had a good ride of it all. And I have no regrets with my life’s adventures. I made it to the Big Time with an abundance of smiles and I have only you to thank for helping make it happen….I hope [my life] has inspired you to live your life as carelessly as I have done. I have lived my life the best way I know how and I regret nothing.
See this post on the wonderful form is void for more from the endlessly quotable QC (and for yet more wisdom from the great and good, run don’t walk to five from…, where essential life advice issued by an alternative pantheon of doers and thinkers awaits).
Ooh, thanks for the shout-outs, my friend! Especially on a Quentin Crisp post!
(I just remembered that, years ago when he was in Chicago doing his one-man show, friends of mine invited him to a party I was having. He politely declined, saying that he’d be sound asleep by that time.)
Such manners! The world truly became a cruder, dumber place when he died.
