Writer and artist Wyndham Lewis produced a number of portraits in oils; these drawings and lithographs, however, are smaller-scale studies of British between-the-wars luminaries (plus the Irish Joyce and the American Pound). Many of these figures were known to him personally, including Pound, who was a champion of Vorticism of which Lewis was the leading exponent. Other subjects include composer Constant Lambert, arch-bohemian Augustus John and Frederick Rolfe biographer A.J.A. Symons.
